Advantages of Using a Magsafe Phone Grip

The primary advantage the human hand has over the rest of the animal kingdom is the existence of, and use of opposable thumbs. Having thumbs means that we can easily grab and grip things, pick stuff up and hold it, and make snapping noises with our hands. Yet, for all this ability, the smooth, often slick exterior of modern smartphones often eludes our grip. That is, we tend to drop our phones a lot.

Thankfully, the progression of technology designed for the specific purpose of assisting us in holding our phones has reached a pinnacle with MagSafe phone grips. MagSafe is a collection of magnets, shields, sensors, and coils built into every iPhone since the iPhone 12. It's Apple's proprietary wireless charger and accessory attachment system adapted from its original version found in the MacBook Pro.

Utilizing a MagSafe phone gives you some advantages over traditional accessories by creating a system that locks chargers and other items directly to your phone. This extra level of security makes it that much easier to keep your phone in your hand. Especially as it concerns MagSafe phone grips.

Protection

Using a MagSafe phone grip lowers your odds of damage when you drop your phone, or from random impacts. They do this in two ways. First, many MagSafe phone grips are part of or attached to a MagSafe phone case, which gives your phone overall protection. Second, a MagSafe phone grip is magnetically attached to your phone with strong, internal magnets. So you don't have to fret about some sticker degrading over time, loosening the stability of your phone grip. This way, when you drop your phone, it's not because your phone grip fell off.

Easy grip

At this point, it's intuitive to assume that a MagSafe phone grip will, well, make your phone easier to grip. Well, you've assumed correctly because that's exactly what will happen. Not only that, many MagSafe compatible phone grips are as ergonomic as they are easy to hold on to. That means when you switch from your phone in the palm of your hand to a grip between your fingers (or vice versa), you don't run the risk of stressing out your hand muscles.

Convenient

A MagSafe phone grip provides a convenient way to hold your phone, as the right grip can easily free up your hands to a particular degree. Basically, there's no more pinning the phone between your cheek and shoulder, as your MagSafe grip becomes part of your hand, but not in a creepy android way. You can quickly intertwine your fingers and the phone grip, enabling movement (like grabbing a falling glass, or dog leash) without worrying about throwing your phone across the floor.

Wireless charging

One of the biggest advantages to using a MagSafe phone grip is the wireless charging option. But unlike previous iterations of wireless charging, MagSafe offers four clear advantages.

Aligned — Most grips simply snap off an included grip base, so you can quickly slap your phone on your MagSafe charger. Unlike Qi charging, this perfect alignment enables reliable charging, so you don't have to squirrel your phone around to get it into just the right spot.

Faster charge — There are two levels of charging when it comes to wireless charging. Qi chargers and MagSafe compatible chargers provide a healthy 7.5W charge. While official MagSafe products charge your phone at a rate of 15W. This is because MagSafe is made a little bit differently.

Safer charge — Because of the specific components inside iPhones, MagSafe is able to deliver a 15W charge without burning out the battery or circuit board. MagSafe charging is quick as much as it is safe, and protects your phone ports from damage over time, saving you money and time when you have to replace a phone because of a snapped port.

Use while charging — With Qi charging, you are often forced to relinquish your phone while it charges. Similar to plugging your phone (without the long-term slow damage to the charging port), a MagSafe charger attaches to your phone, so you can use it while its charging wireless. And when it's done, you can snap the grip back on and get your life moving forward. This is especially handy when after a half hour of Qi wireless charging, you discover your phone was off center by a millimeter and didn't charge.

Conclusion

A MagSafe phone grip is more than a gimmick utilizing MagSafe technology in Apple phones. It's a near necessity these days, offering better protection, security, and ergonomic convenience while taking advantage of better wireless charging. Our phones are our lifelines to the entire world through WiFi and 5G, so why leave their protection to just our bumbling hands? Even our opposable thumbs need some help from a MagSafe grip from time to time.
